Take Action!

Campaign Goals

bulletIncrease awareness of the Castle Wilderness in the general public.  Inform the public of the importance of the Castle Wilderness as an important part of Alberta's ecosystem.  Ensure the public is aware of the threats to the region and the potential irrevocable damage these threats will lead to if current practices in the area continue unabated.

bulletThe ultimate goal of the Castle Wilderness Campaign is legislated protection of this area from industrial and ORV use.  Once protection is in place the area is to be protected using an ecosystem based management plan as opposed to the current resource based management.

bulletHighlights of a protected Castle Wilderness include:

bulletProtection of under represented areas of Alberta's natural eco-regions.

bulletProtection of a high diversity of animal and plant species in Alberta

bulletProtection of a unique region of Alberta's natural heritage

bulletSecuring of a wildlife corridor between Banff National Park and Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park

bulletContribution to the maintenance and restoration of the ecological integrity Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.

bulletBegin to build an economy based on eco-tourism creating a sustainable long-term economy for the Pincher Creek area.

Get Involved

The Sierra Club Canada Chinook Group is involved with several different ways you can get involved in helping to save the Castle Wilderness. If you are interested in any of these areas or have any general questions please contact either David Keith or Brittany Aberle:

bulletTake action, email, write, fax the Premier, Environment Minister, and your MLA let them know you care about the Castle Wilderness.  Go to the Castle Wilderness website where you will be able to send a free fax to members of Alberta's government.  ( For tips on letter writing you can find more information in our Take Action! section )

bulletAs part of our public awareness campaign we will be giving presentations on the Castle Wilderness to community associations and other like-minded groups throughout the year.  We will also be at special events in Southern Alberta handing out information about the Castle Wilderness all year.

bulletThe Sierra Club Chinook will be taking part in several hikes to the Castle Wilderness Area.  By going to the Sierra Club Chinook Outings & Trips section you can also see a detailed list of some upcoming Sierra Club Chinook events.

bulletWe will be partnering with the Castle - Crown Wilderness Coalition during the summer months to help in restoration work in designated areas within the Castle Wilderness.
