Soybean Oil

bulletSoy based products use processed soybean oil to ward off insects.
bulletA University of Guelph study (study abstract attached) confirmed that a soy based product was more effective in repelling mosquitoes than OFF Skintastic, a DEET based product.
bulletSoy based products have no know toxicity

Eucalyptus Oil

bulletPreliminary reviews regarding eucalyptus oil, mentioned in the New England Journal of Medicine concluded that this oil could be one of the longest lasting herbal insect repellents.
bulletThe U.S. Agriculture Department found that a lemon-eucalyptus Chinese insect repellent deterred mosquitoes as well as DEET, though for a shorter time.

Citronella

bulletA product containing 2.8% oil of citronella was shown by a University of Guelph study to provide greater than 96.0% protection from mosquito bites over a 1 hour period. Complete protection was at least 30 minutes. As a result, consumers with a low tolerance to mosquito bites will likely have to reapply this product at 30 minute intervals to maintain 95-100% protection.
bulletAlthough this level of protection is less than would be anticipated with a comparable DEET-based formulation, the "organic" nature of the active ingredients will likely appeal to some consumers.
